The 'All in the Centre' project involves the refurbishment of the St Mary’s Centre which serves the needs of the local Community by providing premises for a wide range of community organisations, many of which are non profit based. The project plan involves the construction of a new entrance porch to the Main Hall at St. Mary's Centre, including disabled access, a lobby area, disabled toilet facilities and a small computer suite for the public. Also, interior improvements including high level windows to the east wall, central heating, storage facilities, the removal of cladding and decoration of walls. Consultation and feedback from community groups who use the Centre strongly supported our view that all would benefit from improved and upgraded facilities both indoor and outdoor. In addition we aim to develop a little used adjacent area of ground in a built up area of Whickham to provide a seating area for all members of the community within a landscaped sensory garden. There will be raised flower beds, a water feature and creative planting to stimulate the senses. This little urban oasis will also provide an appealing and accessible route to the Main Hall. All work will be done by contractors, overseen by our Project Management Group and Architect. The building is at the centre of a conservation area and planning permission for the work has been received. |
